Martial Arts
Studying the Martial Arts isn't about learning how to fight, or about many boards or bricks you can break. It isn't about proving that you're tougher than the next person is or about showing off and bragging that you're a "black belt". It is not a sport or about how many trophies you've won! It is about learning and having respect for others. It is about learning to preserve life not destroy it. It teaches you self-discipline, self-control. In the movie "The Karate Kid", Daniel San had it right when Mr. Miyagi asked him "why he trained" and Daniel San answered "so I don't have to fight". Knowing that you have the skills and power to take a life with one blow requires, no, demands that you have self-discipline and self-control. As Sensei Keys already stated how can you expect to control others or a situation, when you can't even control yourself. Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior require us to control our selves, both emotionally and physically. Even when we're in a situation that we cannot control, we still must maintain that Godly standard that Christ so perfectly demonstrated when he willingly went to the cross! He had the power to destroy all that came against him, talk about being in control! There isn't any better example than that!
Let me talk about Christians and the Martial Arts… as if you had a choice! If you would search the Internet about this topic you would discover there is a lot of mixed emotions out there. I'm not going to tell you that Christians should or should not get involved in the Martial Arts. The Bible tells us in Philippians 2:11 "…continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling." (NIV). In other words, pray and let GOD tell you what he wants you to do! If you're a Christian wanting to take Martial Arts, why not ask GOD to lead you to a Christian Martial Art School? However, He may tell you not to get involved. On the other side, if you're one of those Christians strictly against the Martial Arts, be very careful not to judge the Christian Martial Art Schools that are out there! Mathew 7:1 says "Do not judge, or you too will be judged." (NIV) Our school, Ryu-Kyu Christian Karate Dojo, is a school started and run by GOD almighty! You don't believe it! You say GOD wouldn't start a martial art school! Before you start giving me all your reasons why not, I challenge you to visit us! Talk to our students, talk to our instructors. Then and only then you can tell me all of your why nots!!! For a long time I asked GOD this question. "What does karate have to do with you (GOD)"? I searched the Bible for an answer, never to find one! One day I was eating lunch by myself and that same question popped into my mind. Then I heard GOD tell me the answer. It came in a thought and only in one word…"NOTHING"! Now, for a Christian Karate Instructor "nothing" was not the answer I expected! After all this is my ministry! This is what you (GOD) want me to be doing. "Nothing, what do you mean nothing"? Before I could finish my thought, GOD spoke again. "But I (GOD) have everything to do with Ryu-Kyu Christian Karate Dojo." Boy did that shut me up! All I could say was "Amen" and give GOD praise! GOD is the only person I know that can say so much with so little! Amen? Amen! In conclusion let me say that I'm not putting anyone down because of what they believe, all I ask is that you don't go by your feeling, but pray and ask GOD for his guidance. Don't limit GOD because of your expectations or it doesn't fit in with the "norm" of things. I Corinthians says "But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong" (NIV) GOD is doing a mighty work within the Martial Arts and HE is doing it at Ryu-Kyu Christian Karate Dojo. Again I challenge you to come and see.
This was supposed to be a bios about myself. However I believe I have said what GOD has laid upon my heart. I would love to hear from you, send me an Email. GOD bless and remember "May we use that which we have learned for the glory of GOD!" Amen!
